The NHS Scholarship


  • 475 national semifinalists - $2,850 scholarship
  • 24 national finalists - $5,150 scholarship
  • 1 national winner - $22,650 scholarship

  • To be eligible to apply, a student must be a current high school senior and a member in good standing of an active NHS chapter.

Carr P. Collins Scholarship (Baylor University)

Amount:  $5,200 (Renewable for 3 years)

Deadline:  January 31, 2018



  • rank in the top quarter of their graduating class
  • have a minimum score of 1250/1310 (old/new) on the SAT or 28 on the ACT
  • have completed a balanced college preparatory program including history, science and a foreign language
  • be a bona fide resident of the state of Texas

Texas History Essay Contest

Amount:  1st Place – $4000   2nd Place – $3000   3rd Place – $2000

Deadline:  January 31, 2018



Graduating Seniors in any High School may enter. History, Government and English students are particularly encouraged to participate.The authors of the three best essays submitted will be the winners if the essays so warrant. They will be recognized and the prizes presented by The Sons of the Republic of Texas at the annual San Jacinto Celebration in Houston. The prizes will be scholarships to the college of each winner's choice or will be given to the student directly.

Texas Medical Association – Young Physician Section Dr. Michael O’Malley Memorial Scholarship

Amount:  $1,000

Deadline:  January 31, 2018



This award is given to a rural Texas high school senior who excels in science, for use toward continuing his or her education in the field of medicine. 

Texas Student Housing Scholarship

Amount:  In 2017 scholarships in the amount of $403,600 were awarded

Deadline:  January 31, 2018



  • students accepted to colleges in Austin, College Station, or Denton Texas
  • students cannot sign off-campus housing leases

Eastman Technical School Scholarship

Amount:  $1,000 per semester

Deadline:  January 31, 2018

Students must be a graduate of an area accredited high school and enroll in an Eastman Partner Technical College in one of the following validated programs: Process Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Instrumentation or Welding.  Students will be selected for the scholarship during their senior year with the scholarship beginning the next fall semester.  Selection will be based on the following:

  • Accuracy and thoroughness in completing the Scholarship Application
  • Academic record, at least an overall GPA of 3.0
  • Class ranking
  • Faculty recommendations (2)
  • Citizenship of the United States or a lawful permanent resident who intends to become a US citizen at the earliest opportunity allowed by law
  • Interview with Eastman Representatives
  • Final review by Eastman Scholarship Selection Team
